Controversy Surrounding the UGC-NET Exam

Earlier on July 29, the Supreme Court refused to entertain a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging the government’s decision to cancel the UGC-NET exam due to an alleged question paper leak. The court, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, dismissed the plea. The court noted that the plea was filed by a lawyer rather than a candidate personally affected by the cancellation of the June exam.

The UGC-NET exam, initially scheduled for June 2024, was canceled due to allegations of a question paper leak. On June 19, the Centre ordered the cancellation of the UGC-NET exam and referred the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for further investigation.
