Prajwal Revanna’s Brother Suraj Revanna Arrested: Alleged Sexual Assault Case 2024

Suraj Revanna Arrested for Sexual Assault: Prajwal Revanna's Brother Faces Charges

Suraj Revanna, JD(S) MLC and brother of former MP Prajwal Revanna, arrested for alleged sexual assault following charges filed by a JD(S) worker in Hassan district. Details emerge from the FIR filed under sections 377, 342, and 506 of IPC.

Suraj Revanna, the brother of Prajwal Revanna, former Member of Parliament (MP) and a prominent figure in Karnataka politics, has been arrested by the Karnataka Police on charges of sexual assault. The arrest follows a complaint filed by a Janata Dal (Secular) party worker in Hassan district, alleging that Suraj assaulted him at his farmhouse in Gannikada village on June 16, 2024.

According to the FIR filed at the Holenarasipura police station, the victim, whose identity remains confidential, described how Suraj Revanna allegedly lured him to the farmhouse under the pretext of discussing political strategies. Once there, Suraj purportedly confined the victim to a room, made unwanted sexual advances, and ignored the victim’s objections.

The situation escalated further when, on June 17, the victim reached out to Suraj Revanna’s close aide, Shivu, to confide about the assault. Shivu allegedly attempted to dissuade the victim from reporting the incident publicly by offering financial compensation and promising career advancements in return for silence.

Fearing for his safety, the victim left for Bengaluru on June 19 and formally reported the assault to the Directorate General of Police (DGP). In response to the complaint, the Holenarasipura Rural police promptly registered a case against Suraj Revanna under sections 377 (unnatural offences), 342 (wrongful confinement), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

This arrest comes shortly after the arrest of Suraj Revanna’s brother, Prajwal Revanna, during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Prajwal Revanna, also a member of the Janata Dal (Secular) party, was arrested at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru on similar charges of sexual misconduct, which sent shockwaves through Karnataka’s political landscape.

The incidents involving both brothers have sparked significant public and media attention, raising concerns about the abuse of power and privilege within political circles. They have also underscored the urgent need for transparency, accountability, and reforms in political structures to protect vulnerable individuals from exploitation and ensure justice for victims.

As the legal proceedings unfold, further developments in the case against Suraj Revanna are anticipated. The Karnataka Police have assured a thorough investigation to bring clarity and justice to the matter.
