NEW DELHI – Janata Dal United (JDU) chief and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has emerged as a central figure in political discussions after the opposition INDIA alliance defied exit polls, appearing poised to secure 231 seats—just 31 shy of the majority required to form a government. Kumar’s propensity for shifting political allegiances, earning him the epithet ‘Paltu Kumar’, has become a focal point. According to trends published by the Election Commission, the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leads with 294 seats, while the INDIA bloc trails closely with 231.
Sources suggest that Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) veteran Sharad Pawar has approached Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu, endeavoring to persuade them to join the INDIA alliance. Nitish Kumar’s JDU is currently leading in 15 constituencies in Bihar, whereas Naidu’s TDP has secured 16 seats in Andhra Pradesh.
The potential swing of 31 seats could significantly tilt the balance in favor of the opposition. Despite denials from both the BJP and Pawar, social media has been rife with memes targeting Nitish Kumar.
